Damage recovery of salt rock under different stress states

  • Experiments on the damaged recovery of salt rock samples under uniaxial, biaxial and triaxial stress states have been conducted to study what influences the stress states exert on the damage recovery of the samples. The aim of the experiments is to find out the macro-phenomena of the recovery of damaged salt rocks under the effects of mechanics. The results of the experiments are as follow:firstly, because of the strain hardening, there is a limitation in the application of elastic modulus to evaluate salt rock;secondly, the ultimate strength of salt rock, the energy required for salt rock to reach ultimate strength and the energy ratio can reflect the recovery of damaged salt rock samples under different stress states;thirdly, the confining pressure can promote recovery, while the axial pressure under identical triaxial compression will cause a greater damage. The study proposes that the relationship between the controllable stress and crustal stress of salt cavity should be taken into account for establishing an optimized data system during the maintenance of salt cavity stability.
