Control effect of plate tectonics on coal measures in northern Qinghai-Tibet Plateau

  • The tectonic settings of Qinghai-Tibet Plateau ( Southern Qinghai ) are complicated. Its coal measures formed in each epoch from Carboniferous to Jurassic. Plate tectonic framework was the main factor to control the abun- dant coal resources’formation and distribution. Systematic study on the relationship between coal measures’ formation evolution and regional tectonics in this area is helpful to reveal the coal resources occurrence regularity and serve for the coal resources comprehensive exploration and evaluation. By analyzing the regional tectonic setting and coal meas- ures characteristics in Qinghai-Tibet Plateau with filed geological investigations,the distribution features of coal meas- ures were summarized in time and space;nine kinds of tectono-sedimentary patterns of coal measures formation with two categories and three levels were established;and each pattern’ s feature was amplified. Based on these,the rela- tionships between coal formation and coal basin tectonic evolution in each epoch were further analyzed,the tectonic e- volution pattern in each epoch was proposed,and the late reformation to coal measures by regional tectonics were ana- lyzed. In addition,the influence of regional plate tectonics on coal measures in northern Qinghai-Tibet Plateau were preliminary discussed.
